Defense Electronics Highly Integrated GPS Receiver

چکیده

and-held GPS receivers are used by soldiers to find their way in strange lands, especially at night. H GPS receivers are also used to find downed pilots and locate other strategic personnel. After the Gulf War, the U.S. Army announced it would install GPS in all armored vehicles to help minimize friendly fire incidents, which was a major source of casualties in Operation Desert Storm. Friendly fire incidents most often were caused by armored unit commanders who were lost in the featureless Iraqi desert or were out of position during ground attacks. It is clear from these experiences that the military would like to have GPS location capability on every person, vehicle and projectile. The projectiles do not stop at cruise missiles, but also include 155 mm Howitzers and 5-inch Navy deck guns with GPS guidance. These military GPS receivers must be able to receive the military version of the spread-spectrum code, and they must be antijamming receivers. The first requirement is so the military can dither or “scramble” the commercial code to prevent the enemy from using the GPS signal, but still allowing the full precision for the desired users. The second requirement, antijamming, surfaced in 2003, although it had been anticipated previously. “From the day we built GPS, we’ve been working on ways to overcome jamming,” said Lt. Col. Spoofing Mitigation of GPS Receiver using Least Mean Squares-Based Adaptive Filter

The Global Positioning System (GPS) signals are very weak signal over wireless channels, so they are vulnerable to in-band interferences. Therefore, even a low-power interference can easily spoof GPS receivers. Among the variety of GPS signal interference, spoofing is considered as the most dangerous intentional interference. The spoofing effects can mitigate with an appropriate strategy in the...

GPS Time Reception Using Altera SOPC Builder and Nios II: Application in Train Positioning

As functional integration has increased in hand-held consumer devices features such as Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers have been embedded in increasingly more devices in recent years. For example, the train positioning system based on GPS provides an integrated positioning solution which can be used in many rail applications without a cost intensive infrastructure. The network built i...

FPGA based GPS receiver design considerations

A project to build a GPS receiver using an FPGA for base-band processing began in 2004. The new receiver platform uses a commonly available RF front end ASIC to convert the GPS signals to a suitable IF. The digital design for baseband processing is normally a reasonably straight forward task. However, because the received GPS signals are at such low levels this presents some challenges. One of ...

Flight Tests of an Unmanned Air Vehicle with Integrated Multi-Antenna GPS Receiver and IMU: Towards a Testbed for Distributed Control and Formation Flight

Stanford University's GPS Laboratory has integrated a new multiple-antenna GPS receiver with an inertial measurement unit into the DragonFly unmanned air vehicle. Recent successful flight tests have demonstrated the performance of the new avionics and illustrated the great potential to use the aircraft as a testbed for navigation and control experiments. Unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) are attract...

A Robust Signal Acquisition and Tracking Architecture with Ultra-Tight Integration of GPS/INS/PL and Multiple Antenna Array

Abstract. A robust space-time GPS/INS/PL integrated positioning system with a multiple antenna array is introduced in this paper. We consider both signal acquisition and tracking with jamming in a highly dynamical environment. The proposed robust GPS space-time receiver is tailored to high dynamic vehicular platform with multipath mitigating and interference rejection capabilities. In particula...
